Flavor Profile (What Makes This Dish Unique)

Smoky, spicy, and slightly sweet:
Classic jerk heat brings fire and funk, while honey rounds the edges and lets the salmon’s natural richness shine.

Crisp outside, buttery inside:
The air fryer delivers caramelized edges with a moist, flaky center—maximum texture, minimum effort.

Key Flavor Ingredients (Why They Matter)

  • Fresh salmon: Rich, fatty, and sturdy enough to stand up to bold jerk seasoning without getting lost.
  • Jerk marinade: The soul of the dish—layers of heat, herbs, and warm spice that define Caribbean flavor.
  • Honey: Softens the spice and promotes beautiful caramelization in the air fryer.
  • Olive oil: Helps the marinade cling, keeps the fish moist, and encourages even browning.

Serving Suggestions

Serve this salmon dish with Jamaican rice and peas, fried sweet plantains, steamed cabbage, and a big batch of coconut rice.

Recipe Variations & Ingredient Substitutions

  • No honey: Swap with maple syrup or agave.
  • Different fish: Try trout or arctic char
  • Oven method: Bake at 400°F if an air fryer isn’t available.

Test Kitchen Tips for Best Results

  • Pat salmon dry first: Helps the marinade stick and prevents steaming.
  • Don’t overcrowd the basket: Air needs room to circulate for proper browning.
  • Cook skin-side down: Protects the flesh and keeps it juicy.
  • Take the time and make your own marinade. Do it on a Sunday meal prep day and refrigerate until ready to use. If you plan to use a store-bought marinade go with Grace or Walkerswood. Taste and doctor until the flavor meets your preference.
  • Don’t worry about wiping away all the jerk paste. A thin layer is great as it leaves that distinct Jamaican jerk flavor. If you feel like you need more heat you can add a few red pepper flakes.
  • You can make this in a conventional oven if you don't have an air fryer. Cook 375 degrees for 15-17 minutes.
